An Architect Finds His Way Back To The Maine Coast

This house was designed by Gil Schafer III, owner of G. P. Architect| Architecture + Design. This beautiful seaside home is owned by Gil himself, one summer he was late finding a summer rental for a vacation in Maine, and this house was all that was available. At the time, it was an old A-frame with no real character or charm, but Gil fell in love with the setting, who wouldn’t! Lucky for him the house was for sale, and he decided to buy the house and remodel the home, a beautiful summer home by the sea. In his biography, I read a quote from him that spoke to my heart;

“As a residential architect, I believe that my highest achievement is to successfully create places our clients can call home. That word ‘home,’ to me, has everything to do with comfort, family and friends—and memories, most of all. Growing up, I learned that if a house is going to feel like home, it has to create opportunities for memories, even in the smallest moments of life.”
