A Piece of Paradise on the Gulf of Florida

Hi Friends,

A couple from Birmingham, Alabama had previously owned property on the Gulf Coast of Florida before and this time they were looking for a house directly on the water. They found the piece of property that fit their checklist in Old Florida Beach, a beautiful yard with scrub palms, rolling dunes an a view of the gulf coast of Florida. They hired Architect Paul Geary, of T.S. Adams Studio, who took the original house down to the foundation and designed a house that paid homage to the architectural style in the area: The Florida Cracker Style. Cracker style refers to the rustic vernacular wood-framed architecture, this style of architecture provides shelter from the baking Florida sun and puts an emphasis on making the most of the gorgeous Florida trade winds. Most Cracker style homes have large front porches and corrugated metal roofs that help reflect the sun. The back of the house has a set of five french doors inviting in ample natural light, ocean breezes and offers an incredible view of the turquoise waters of the Gulf Coast.
